Testify = Happiness!

20171116_193350December 4, 2017

HI FAMILY!

I’ll share my favorite experience of the week:
So one of the sisters in our zone had surgery a few weeks ago, so we have been going to their area a lot these past few weeks to help her recover and help in their area.  Just so happens to be my first area! SO I LOVE IT!
Anyway, this week we were able to go back again. We had finished an investigator appointment and were on our way back home. We stopped at the bus stop and started to talk to the ladies sitting there. We talked about our purpose as missionaries and explained the Book of Mormon. They both accepted copies and then I had this thought to share the light the world video with them! So we were watching the video at the bus stop, in the middle of Korea, and while we were watching the video, I was testifying of Christ and the power He has to change our lives. The spirit was strong, and they both accepted the invitation to learn more! Then the bus came and we left.
It honestly wasn’t any special meeting. Something that we do a millions of times every day. But after we rode the bus, a random thought came into my mind.
“Wow, I really am the happiest right now!”
I realized that the times I have testified of Jesus Christ in my life, have been the times that I have been the happiest. Sharing my testimony of Christ really has become my happiest moments. Being able to share with people the message of His life, His sacrifice, His love and His atonement… It is what brings the most joy into my life. Being able to wear His testimony on my chest every day has been one of the biggest blessing of my entire life.
I know Christ Lived. I know Christ died, and I know He  was resurrected 3 days later, and He lives now. I know He loves me, and I know that because He loves me, He helps me to overcome my weakness, change, become someone new and experience true happiness. He really has become my best friend, and I really have come to know who He is on my mission. Grateful for the chance to continue to draw closer to Him through the rest of my life and grateful for the chance to experience true joy as I share my testimony with others.

HI FAMILY

This week was a great week!  Best experiences:

We have this new, super awesome investigator! She is seriously the sweetest. But.. Also we were kind of considering dropping her this week because every time we meet, we go to teach the gospel, and she all the sudden, “has something come up” and “has to go right away” and makes the worst excuses. So we were kind of thinking that she may not have interest anymore, and it would be good to drop her. But then she called and asked to meet, so we decided to try one last time! And of course, when we went to go teach, “something came up” and she had to leave right away. So, we were super bummed. But we asked if we could pray together before she left. As I was praying, all the sudden I just felt how much love Heavenly Father has for her. I felt just how much she was struggling, and just how much she really needed the gospel. After the prayer, she looked up at us and starting crying! She said that she felt so much comfort and was so grateful to meet with us.

After she left, my companion and I were talking. We were talking about how during the prayer, we both felt that she has so many insecurities and doubts about learning about the gospel, but she really does have interest deep down. and we were able to really feel what she needs the most.. our love!
“Love casteth out all fears!”

Through our love for others, we can help them overcome their fears and accept the gospel. Grateful for the chance to keep meeting her and showing our love for her.

SIDE NOTE TESTIMONY:Shout out to my favorite person in the whole wide world. Our recent convert! It’s been such a blessing to watch her change through the gospel of Jesus Christ. The blessings she has received by accepting the gospel have been so innumerable–from temporal, spiritual, and even physical.. she really has become a changed person through the gospel. Super grateful to be able to watch it!

I am so grateful for the chance to change and to become a new person through the gospel of Jesus Christ. We really have the chance to change every single day! We can overcome our weaknesses, turn them into strengths, and really become our greatest self.

Grateful for my Savior, Jesus Christ, who really makes change possible. It’s through him and his sacrifice that we can become our best selves. I know He lives! I know he loves us. And I know he is ready and willing to reach out and lift us.

HAVE A GOOD WEEK!

Hi!

Things have been crazy the past few days–

There is this sister in our zone and she had a cyst that ruptured on her uterus and it spread blood everywhere in her body so she had to have emergency surgery the other day and so President called us and asked us to come down and help her in the hospital with recovery; so I’ve been sitting in the hospital the past few days with her and then we have to email through the phone today, which is kind of a major pain in the rump but all is well. We just finished changing her patches and talking with the doctors. I think she will be discharged tomorrow. I have been sleeping on the ground on this little pad that is too small because Koreas are short and my feet go off the end. I haven’t showered but I think I’ll be able to shower today so that’s the miracle.

The first night I got here, we said a prayer together and when I started praying, I could just feel everything she was feeling and I could feel how hard it was for her to go through surgery without her mom and dad in a foreign country where they don’t speak English to her and on her mission and she has to just sit here and yeah, I felt like Heavenly Father really told me what to pray for and afterwards she was just bawling in my arms and crying and it was a such a special moment. I felt like Heavenly Father sent me to be an angel to help her. So it’s been good. She’s become one of my good friends the past few days. Even though I miss a shower and bed, its been a blessing to be here for her.

Because of that, not much update on our area. But I think everything is going good!

I’ll send more of an update next week. Okay, love you! And miss you so much!!!

Love you!!!

So Blessed . . .

HIIII FAMILY!
GOOD WEEK IN THE MISSION
This past week we had the baptism of our cute little kids. Before the baptism, we were walking to the church and I was thinking of the first time we met them. The mom has been a less active member since high school, and randomly we got a call from our mission leader about how she had moved into our ward a few weeks ago. He told us to give her a call and try to help her! So we tried to contact her multiple times, but we couldn’t get a hold of her. So we were pretty discouraged. We prayed every day for two weeks to be able to meet her family. Then one day, we didn’t have any appointments, and we decided that we just wanted to try calling her one last time! So we called her, and she invited us over the next day! We were soo excited.
In the first few minutes of meeting her, she started crying as she expressed how lately her life has been so hard and it has really humbled her. She talked about how she has really come to feel there’s nothing in her life but Heavenly Father. She said that she has had the desire to come back to church and she wants her children to get baptized and grow up in the gospel. She was so overwhelmed with gratitude and so emotional. We really felt like Heavenly Father had been calling her to come back into the church and help her family find the gospel too.

From then on, we continued to meet her and her kids! They started coming back out to church, coming to English class, and meeting with all the members. From the start, her and her kids had such a desire to accept the gospel! They kept all their commitments. They read the Book of Mormon together as a family, they prayed every day and they came to church every week. At first it was a struggle for them. She would call upset, or we would visit her and she would just cry with us. But as we continued to meet, and they continued to keep their commitments, we watched their lives change. They found more peace as a family, we watched how they started to treat their family with more respect and love, and their dad even started to support them coming to church by dropping them off and picking them up! Of course their lives still aren’t perfect, but the change is so dramatic!
By meeting the kids and helping the less active mom, I have really come to gain a testimony about how the gospel really has the power to change our lives, strengthen our families, and help us overcome challenges. This sister (the mother) is the ultimate example. She has so many struggles in her life. But her dedication and perseverance to raise her children in the gospel is so admirable. Of course she isn’t perfect, and of course she is still learning, but I don’t think she will ever give up. Her kids are so lucky to have such an amazing mother.
After the baptism, she came up to me and she just cried and hugged me. She said that she could never express how grateful she was for me to come and find her family. She said that we were literally angels sent to her from God. She said that because of us meeting, her family could one day be eternal, sealed in the temple. and that because of us meeting, her kids would go on missions, and find families like hers and help them. It was one of the most precious moments on my mission.

We were also able to see a really big miracle on Sunday. After church ended, we got a random call from a potential investigator we had met through a street meeting. She called and said that she had to visit the church and wanted to meet us. We were pretty surprised and a little shocked. But super excited to meet her! She showed up at the church, and was able to meet some members and get a tour of the building. Afterwards, we were expecting her to leave but she just kept talking to us! Then she asked to go sit down at the park with her! So we were like “haha yeah sure” so we went and started talking with her. Turns out that a few years ago, she had received the Book of Mormon and had read almost all of it! But she didn’t have time to meet the missionaries, so she lost contact with them. But then a few weeks ago, she was able to meet us again on the street and she was so excited! She talked about how right now her life is so hard. She cries all the time, has no friends, is super lonely and just wants to be happy. Sister Nam and I looked at each other and just smiled. Then we started teaching her about the gospel. I don’t think I have ever met someone so golden on my mission? We made an appointment to meet again on Friday. Super excited to start teaching her!

After we left her, me and my companion just looked at each other.. started laughing and just hugged each other. I have never felt so blessed and happy as a missionary before. Heavenly Father is blessing us so much the past few weeks. I feel like everything I have prayed, fasted for, and begged on my knees for the past 15 is all coming out in my last transfer. I could never put into words how grateful I am for Heavenly Father and His plan for me. Sometimes I was confused, discouraged and lacked faith. But looking back, Heavenly Father was really just testing my faith the whole time. He really gave me the perfect mission. He really knows me. I know He loves me, and I know He listens to my prayers. He knows exactly what I need, and when I need it. He leads me, guides me, and directs everything so that I can learn the most, progress, and find the happiest path. So grateful for Him and the opportunity to draw closer to Him.

Birthday week: best week!
OUR SWEET SISTER GOT BAPTIZED
read for details
20171105_133859.jpg
So, we have been planning for her baptismal date for almost 1 month now. Then, about a week and a half ago, we met her and she was super upset. She said that the next door neighbor (priest) came and talked to her about our church. He said that it was a cult and that she shouldn’t be meeting us anymore. So when we met, she was super upset and said that she didn’t feel like she was ready to get baptized. She said that she needed to know for sure that this was Heavenly Father’s chosen church. We shared with her the importance of the Book of Mormon and how that truly is the keystone of our religion. We prayed with her and invited her to pray again, to know for sure this is true. She said she didn’t want to get baptized cause she didn’t feel like she really knew this was true! So we left super discouraged and honestly heart-broken. Mainly because my companion and I thought she was so prepared and ready for baptism! So we went home, and we prayed together that she would have the desire and the motivation to read the Book of Mormon and pray about Joseph Smith on her own.
Then at church on Sunday, she came and we did a lesson afterwards with some members. She explained about how she just didn’t really have any interest in baptism anymore and she just wanted to wait a few YEARS before she got baptized. So we had to cancel the baptism for November 5th. OKAY HONESTLY I was so sad. I really almost cried in the lesson! So we went home and we decided to fast for her and pray that she would have the desire to read the Book of Mormon and get baptized! We honestly were just lost and so confused. We felt like we had nothing else we could do. That night, when I was praying, the only thing I kept feeling was “there’s nothing left but faith and prayer”. Everything was just left in Heavenly Father’s hands. I felt like we had done absolutely everyting we knew to do to help her. Like it was the end! The only thing we could for her was just pray and have faith.
DSC05508[1]
Then we met her again on Wednesday. We were talking about the Book of Mormon, and she said the coolest thing! She said that for the first time ever, this week she has had the desire to read the Book of Mormon! I was seriously so humbled and so shocked. It was so cool to see first hand how Heavenly Father really does soften and prepare His children’s hearts to hear and accept the gospel. We were so humbled and grateful! She also explained how she has been super close with her brother, but the past few months, he’s been so busy….so  she hasn’t been able to see him a lot! But out of no where, he randomly showed up at her house on Tuesday night. She said that she was nervous that her family would be against her getting baptized, so she asked her brother. and.. to her surprise.. her brother was excited for her! He told her that all the Mormons he had ever met, were so sincere and kind and that she should get baptized and attend our church! When she said that, I was seriously so shocked! What are the odds that her brother randomly shows up at her house and tells her to get baptized? She said when she heard that, all her fears were melted away and she felt so much better about getting baptized. so we were super excited! And we invited her to do the baptismal interview this week (November 5th) and to pray about it again until we met again on Saturday night.
So on Saturday night we met, and we read the Book of Mormon together. But the previous week, we had decided to postpone the baptism service, so we decided to just go and read the Book of Mormon with her. So we just met quickly and read the Book of Mormon and had some awesome discussions about how the Book of Mormon is truly true!
Then, we get up on Sunday, just like any other Sunday, and went off to church. We weren’t expecting her to get baptized on Sunday because the previous week, we had decided to postpone with her it until she felt ready. BUT THEN she walked into church, and she’s dressed so cute and has done her hair and make up and says, “Today is my baptism!”   ????!!!! WHAT??? HOW DOES A MISSIONARY NOT KNOW THAT THEIR INVESTIGAOTR IS GETTING BAPTIZED??? We were soo shocked and like “what???” and she said that when she woke up that morning, she decided that she couldn’t postpone it anymore, and today was the day that she needed to get baptized. (also we have the same birthday and it was our birthdays) and she said that she wanted to get baptized on her birthday,  and so, “today was her day!”
Me and companion literally freaked out!! Because she hadn’t done the baptismal interview, and we hadn’t made any plans for the baptismal service, but she was totally set on getting baptized that day?? LIKE WHAT? I was so overwhelmed with emotions, I seriously almost cried hugging! Seriously every experience I have had with her, has proven how much Heavenly Father loves all His children, how much He is preparing them to accept the gospel, and how much He really does hear and answer our prayers.
SO after sacrament meeting, we reviewed the baptismal questions with her again. We prayed together to know that if she was really prepared. She really felt like she was ready, so we went ahead and did the interview. (she loves to talk, so it lasted like one hour seriously) And then when she came out, the spirit in the room was so strong! We all felt like it was really her day to get baptized! We filled the water, quickly arranged prayers, hymns, special musical number, asked members to prepare talks, and she ran home and got her white underclothing and came back just in time!
The service was seriously so beautiful. Everything turned out perfectly, even though it was planned in less than 20 minutes. Every experience we had that day really showed and bore testimony about how it was really her day to get baptized!
During the baptism, one of the members she is really close with, got up and bore her testimony. She talked about how the last time she was in the temple, she could imagined our investigator in the celestial room with her. She talked about how she has always prayed for the day that she is baptized, and now she is praying for the day to enter the temple with her for the first time! Our investigator was so emotional too! Now she is so excited to enter the temple for the first time!
I think the part that I’ll remember forever, is right after she was baptized. She came up out of the water, and walked up the stairs to me and Sister Lam. She hugged us so tight and said, “thank you so much for finding me” and she was crying so hard. In that moment, I got a glimpse of the eternitities. How we really were friends before this life, meant to meet at this time, and how we were really will be able to live together in the eternities together. She will always have a special place in my heart.
So grateful and humbled to be able to be part of her conversion story. She really is so special! The most sudden, spiritual baptism that has probably ever happened! But really super special.
Also what better birthday present could anyone ask for???
JUST FEELING HAPPY RIGHT NOW
Also shout out to my best friend, Taylor Lewis, who leaves on her mission in two days.
Also shout out to my mother and father for sending me awesome birthday stuff!
Also after her baptism, we had a birthday party at her house  and ate Baskin Robbins ice cream and took lots of pictures!
Stay tuned–
pictures are coming
love you mom and dad

No time to breath!

DSC05597[1]October 30, 2017

Hi mom! We got phones this week! Super crazy!! I read all your emails via a smart phone!! haha So crazy, right?

This week was super cool cause we got smartphones but also the most stressful and busy week of my entire life–seriously, had no time to breath or even be myself.  We got calls from president because some of the sisters in our zones got into an argument and we had to go on emergency splits with them, which totally cramped all of our schedules for the whole week. We had to cancel so much stuff and it was a super big bummer cause we didn’t have time to really focus on our investigators. Especially because our investigator was supposed to have her baptismal interview this week, and then she ended up just not being quite ready.  So I think we are going to push it back another 2 weeks. But last night I was so scared she wouldn’t get baptized!  I had a dream and then I woke up in the middle of the night and just prayed for her for like 10 minutes! hahaha I just love her so much!!!! A stupid pastor ran into her and told her to stop meeting us because “we are a cult” and it scared her a lot. But also–right before big miracles happen, there’s always lots of set backs! So we will see! We are really praying for her.
She wants to hear other’s testimonies of the Book of Mormon, so she can find her own.  So that’s why I asked you guys to send it! We meet her in two days, so I can access your emails then and show her. Smart phones are really good for the work!  I’m excited to see how they help us!
We’ve been focusing on the scriptures with her and how they help our testimonies.. Honestly, I feel like the scriptures are the basic unit of our testimonies! Something I’ve really learned while meeting with her this month. Please pray for her! We are still getting our little kids ready for their baptism on the 11th too! They are doing awesome!!!
Okay love you!! miss you lots!! Have fun on Halloween!  I’m sure it will be a hit… even if it takes a few years to grow!!!
Love you lots mom!!!
